A Prayer from Anita Carman, Founder and President of Inspire Women
Lord, when we forget our history, our future becomes confused. When I was growing up in my country, those outside of America looked to America as a Christian country. When the statue of Liberty was built and the poem by Emma Lazarus read, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free", many coming to America saw it as a kind and gentle nation because it was a nation under God. How could it be that in responding in mercy to those who have come to this great country that we have allowed our values to become confused to the point that we have lost our identity? Oh God, help us to remember our history. Help us to remember from whom our blessings and our strength came from. Help us to stand boldly and to be proud of our roots in you, so that we can move with clarity into the future. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
